One Thing I Desire

Jan 12, 2026    Boyd Biggerstaff

In a world that constantly demands our attention with endless notifications, breaking news, and mounting distractions, this message calls us back to what truly matters: singular devotion to God's presence. Drawing from Psalm 27:4, we're challenged to embrace David's heart cry—'One thing I desire of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.' David wasn't writing from a place of comfort but from the battlefield, surrounded by enemies and chaos, yet his focus remained undivided. The Hebrew word for 'one' means singular, united, undivided—David wasn't multitasking spiritually. This isn't about adding Jesus to our already chaotic lives; it's about ordering our entire existence around Him. We're reminded that divided hearts lead to deluded devotion, and that the greatest battle of discipleship today isn't persecution—it's distraction. When we make God's presence our true north, everything else falls into proper alignment. The message powerfully illustrates this through the silversmith refining silver: as impurities are skimmed away under increasing heat, the refiner knows the work is complete when he can see his reflection in the metal. Similarly, Christ refines us until He sees His image reflected in our lives. This is our calling for 2026 and beyond—not to pursue many things, but to pursue the one thing that satisfies: dwelling continuously in God's presence.
